In 1925, Sun City was the site selected for a planned movie colony designed to attract the movie industry to South County, Florida. The three men most responsible for this venture were ill-suited dreamers whose actions led to the demise of the colony. This paper explores this history of the planned movie colony and the men behind the effort.

Picnic was never a town. Originally called Hurrah Creek, it is believed that the name came from the fact that two wooden bridges crossed the Hurrah Creek there and it was the community place for a picnic in 1900's. Today it is an undeveloped part of Hillsborough County on SR 37.

After Al Tomaini's death in 1962, his wife, Jeanie, placed a 35 inch boot outside of their home, as a memorial. This picture is of the unrestored boot. When Jeanie died in 1999, the property was sold to Mosaic Company and shortly after that, the boot went missing. To honor the family Mosaic, with the help of Gibsonton residents, created a park on the site of Giant's Fish Camp, and today a full size replica of the boot is on site to memorialize Al.

This picture of Jones Filling Station likely post dates 1926. Note the sign which indicates this is also the Sun City Post Office. According to USPS records, Sun City's post office was established in 1927.
